The System: Rapid Transit in New York

With the gracious help of The Cutting Room, Big Sky Edit and CO3, I was able to restore the 45 year old documentary short, The System: Rapid Transit in New York. The film is an admiring look at the New York City subway system and has the unique vantage point of doing so from 1966. It entails how one of the world’s most complex transportation systems came to be and how it’s inextricably woven into the life of New York and the lives of every New Yorker. It was directed by a 25 year old photographer (and first time filmmaker) who had just come out of the U.S. Navy where he learned the photography trade he loved and made his living at. His name – John Garetti. Nice work Dad.
